One Year Anniversary

Posted 5th October 2024

Bob from the last part of year 1 with the head tumour was in the management phase of his condition, all that could have been done, so we provided the medication that his owner couldn't afford. Initially he didn't improve so different medication was tried. This was his only option and something that would have been needed for the rest of his life. We paid 145.20 euros in total. Unfortunately Bob didn't make it and is no longer with us, but we at least made his last months comfortable and pain free.

Whisky from the last part of year 1 finally had his operation on July 10. We paid the entire 600 euros for this, as he had been suffering, and asking other associations for help, but the owner and the other associations couldn't afford it.

The dear little Cereja (I call her Cherry in some of the posts) who ended up being our Anniversary dog needed an operation to regain the sight in 1 eye (the other was also blind, but there was no treatment for this) and the cost of that was 1472.63 euros. Luckily I had already known of an eye specialist who I advised her owner to go to, and her operation was done in September. We paid the bill with a very kind discount, or it would have been even higher than this. We also paid for her pre-op tests to ensure it was safe to go ahead, this was 351.71 euros making the total cost 1790.45 euros. Thank you to everybody who helped this happen.

A poor little dog called Viola was attacked by another dog, and had a nasty injury to the neck. I didn't have time to ask the group for help here, as it wasn't a booked appointment, it was a rush to treatment. The bill for this was 119 euros, and the vet expected payment urgently, so we paid the full amount. We need the vets to trust us and pay up when they ask us to as this help us in the future if there is an emergency.

Molly wasn't able to eat and there was no obvious reason why, so it was suggested that she have a CT scan. First she needed blood tests and heart tests to ensure she could survive the Anaesthesia, as she had become very weak during the period of refusing food. She was getting some treatments, and the vets are in contact with her a lot to try to get her through this situation. Sadly Molly was unable to survive her medical issues, and she went to Rainbow bridge with the help of the vets and in the company of her Mum. We settled the total of 284 euros.

Dandara also needed help with an operation for Mammary tumours, and the bill for this was 600 euros, including all the bloods and scans and the final operation. So we had the tumours removed and paid for it all for her, so she can live a healthy happy life.

Kiara had a terrible wound on her tail, and her owner was worried to take her to the vet as she didn't have the money to pay for it, so the wound got much worse. Then somebody told her about us, and we were able to help her. Sadly if we had known sooner maybe some antibiotics would have helped, but it was so bad, and deep that the only course of action was a full amputation of poor Kiaras tail. This is very sad, but we hope she feels better now. We paid the full cost of 605 euros.

We had a desperate call from somebody whose cat Nina needed to urgently be PTS, and she was in terrible pain, so we agreed, the bill was just 49.01 and I agreed because we couldn't let her suffer.

We have Jessy back in the group, she was a dog we helped last year, and she needs medication for life for Addison's Disease. This is not a cheap monthly bill, and we need all the help we can regularly get specifically for Jessy if we are to continue until her owner is able to pay more of this debt. With the medication, the appointment, the blood tests and the administration of the injections it is around 160 euros per month. We paid 120 euros cover the medication for October and buy some time for the owner to get some support from her family and friends for this situation.

Alf was 17 years old, but still enjoying life, but suddenly he started weeing some blood, so the vet did some tests and he has some antibiotics. The bill for this was 107 euros which we paid. He has also now sadly passed away, and is over the rainbow bridge, but we helped his last few weeks be more comfortable.

Poor Sara was rushed to the vet almost dying with a strong digestive infection. She had no food for over a week, just vomiting and diarrhoea with blood. It was feared she wouldn't survive, but she did. She is recovering and getting better. The bill was 648.72 euros, and there was some money being donated outside of the group, so we paid 450 euros to make up the missing amount.

Lassie was added to the group with urgent treatment needed for blood analysis, abdominal ultrasound and chest radio-graphs to search for metastasis. We helped her, and paid 607.76 for her to have the operation urgently, and she is healing well. Her owner is donating to the group to help pay for Lassies treatment.

Poor Snoopy had blood coming from the ears, attracting flies. Treatment was needed quite urgently, so we asked the vet to find out what the issue was. Snoopy had an infection and will now feel much better. The bill was just 47 euros so we settled it.

Benji was very unwell and needed to see the vet, so he had tests on his Liver and Kidneys and also for Tick Fever and was found to be positive for 2 tick Fevers and had very itchy skin, so needed some special shampoo and medication. The total was 163.80 which we paid, and Benji will be feeling much better very soon.

Sadly there was a sudden emergency, and a dog called Simão who was very old, and had lots of health issue needed some help and ended up going over rainbow bridge with his human supporting him. The bill for this was 78.30, and it was such an emergency we didn't even get time to add it to the group until it was done. Sleep well Simão. 🙁

We now have Bin in the group, with a bill of 1233.05 for a very important operation, as Bin has a hernia painfully not allowing him to remove his own waste from his body. His owner is doing this by hand, and he has had his operation. This has now been paid, so we need donations for this and are grateful for every euro. We would like to say a special thank you to a donator in this case who we could not have done it without. Thank you so much for this help. 💖

Kiko had a last minute visit to the vet as he wasn't eating and not feeling very well, and I managed to get a 10% off of the bill agreement so I allowed Kiko to go for a consultation and have tests, and we are awaiting the results before we decide how to proceed and what next steps to take. This cost 175.50 and we will soon know what is needed to help Kiko.

We have to say a huge thank you to Alison Geers, who donated 350 euros to Buddy's Legacy from her Summer Fundraiser, so Thank you so much Alison!

Also thank you so much to Alyson Sheldrake who is donating 20% of the sales of her Summer Sale AND 10% of any Paintings commissioned between now and the end of November, and we have already benefited from this amazingly generous offer, so thank you so much Alyson!

And thank you also to Pauline Padley, a friend, who had a fundraising sale at her first house warming party, raising some much needed euros for us. Thank you!

A huge thank you to the regular donators who we couldn't survive without, and to those who step in when a call is made for each and every dog we have helped so far and will continue to help in the future.
