Milena from the last update, needed an operation for the other side of her abdomen, as that was weak and also she needed urgent sterilisation as she had a uterine infection, and some lumps, possibly cancerous, but they needed removal and testing. We paid 508.60 euros to get her happy and healthy.

Another Daisy was sterilising, and that came out of a kind financial grant, but the owner didn't have the money to pay for the buster collar and medication, so we paid the 50.08 for those.

A small female dog called Maggie had a very painful tumour in her gum, and she was struggling to eat, and needed it to be looked at, so we managed to raise 268.02 euros to help her have a piece removed and sent off for testing. Then it was decided, with the vets advice that it was not fair to further treat Maggie, as any interventions would not add to her quality of life.

A beautiful big but young female dog called Thyra had a terrible fall a few months ago, and her needs were greater than we could manage, but the owner did fundraise for her, and we helped by adding 250 euros to her account at the vet, as she keeps having to go in for wound checks and infections, so the owner now doesn't need to worry about those payments and can focus on getting her wheels made, and getting her physio.

Lord has some liver problems, and we helped him in the previous update, he went to and from the vets for tests and medication for a while, so we have paid his bill of 188.50 euros for his second visit. There is hope that the owner will be able to also pay some of the future bills, but we are here for him.

Layla had a very sore mouth, and she wasn't eating, and also she was defensive if anybody looked or touched her mouth, so she needed sedating for the vet to see and help her. It turned out that she had swelling in her throat, so she has medication which we helped with in the previous update, and a return trip to the vet to check all is well with her. We paid 22.65 for her second visit, and also 20 euros for her microchip and booklet.

Luna was on death row, her owner took her to the vet unwell with no money and asked for her to be Put To Sleep. However a person did step forward and offer her a home, but she had 2 hours to find the money for the Uterus removal, as there was something in there, possibly a dead pup which caused her terrible pain. She also had lumps on both sides of her mammory chain. So we sprang into action and saved her and paid 450 euros for the removal of the uterus, then the following operation was 350.46 which we paid. We hope she is happy with her new owner.

Kiko had a lump removed from his head in the previous update, and he will need return trips and medication to keep his cancer to a minimum, and allow him a happy rest of his life, so we paid 426.02 euros for his return for tests and medication. We then paid 98.67 for the medication Kiko needs but this will last a few months. Kiko also had his check up and heart test so we paid 188 euros for this. Since we already started working with him, we need to finish and not leave him without his treatment and for this reason we also paid for his next return and tests and medication which was 185.20 euros.

Nina also had some treatment, tests and medication in the previous update, but the cause of her gut issues had not yet been established, so she also returned for more tests, treatments and medication costing 114.48 euros. Nina also had poop tests and further interventions to decide what is wrong with her and we paid 155.93 for this, if the latest test comes back positive she will need medication to replace the pancreatic enzymes that she is short of.

Rabicho and Nino are two cats we have helped before. They had a high fever and probably a respiratory infection, needing antibiotics, and a visit to the vets. The treatment seemed to help, so we gladly paid 100.01 towards their care.

Chiara was chewing on her toes again, this has happened before (potentially an environmental allergy), which are very difficult to control and manage, but we paid 107.50 for her consultation and treatment. This dog suffers from high anxiety and it is also possible this is a behavioural issue and she has been given anti-inflammatory and also some calming pills.

The owner of several dogs and cats was struggling with vets bills, and parasite treatments, and we paid 300 euros to his vet to help with the mounting costs for his animals, and also we helped to sterilise a female dog for him.

We discovered a dog with a broken hip due to a terrible accident who was in so much pain! So the owners and friends had managed to pay some, but we helped with the rest of vet bill for Cacau, paying 619.13 euros. He was quickly operated on, and we are happy to say he is pain free and walking normally.

We had Kalito in the group, who broke his 2 front legs in August 2024. Sadly the owner couldn't afford the operation needed, so the vet could only add splints and bandages, which je chewed off many times. The family spent everything they could afford trying to help THEN were told by a friend about Buddy's Legacy. We sent Kalito to a specialist for a consultation, x-rays and a plan for helping Kalito after so long. However it was decided that his quality of life would not be improved by ongoing and time consuming interventions, so with the vets agreement Kalito has continued his happy life, with his owner, and managing as he has been doing.

A dog called Pipoca who has heart failure and needed to have an ultrasound and check-up analysis but his owner was struggling to pay, and didn't want to cancel these important tests so we paid 120 euros for that.

Rex sadly tore his Cruciate Ligament, and was in a lot of pain, needing an operation. His owner did try to save some money but it would have taken too long, and Rex really needed help, so we paid 636.10 towards his operation. He is much happier and healing well.

Some cats were supported by us to have their sterilisations, but also needed tests and chips so we also paid the 523.66 euros for this, as it helped a lot, and also some needed special food from the vets as they were very unwell. πŸ™‚

Nina (2) was a dog due to be sterilised by us, and she was found to have bladder stones, so we paid 54 euros to have these removed, as these were causingpain. She feels much better now. πŸ™‚

Suricata was feeling very unwell, and her owner took her for a Leish test as it was very worrying seeing her so unwell. Sadly she was in an advanced state of Leishmaniosis, and needed to be hospitalised, so we agreed to help with this, and she spent 5 days in the hospital having treatment. She was depressed and missed her home, owner and family so she stopped eating. It was this that prompted her owner to treat her at home, taking her out of the hospital and we settled the bill of 340.28 euros. She sadly went back to the vets for some more treatment and overnight stays, and we paid 356.98 for this.

Daisy has been a part of Buddy's Legacy for a long while, sadly she was born with a cognitive deformity in her back leg. There was some dispute between vets saying she should be operated on at 6 to 7 months as she was struggling, and others saying she should wait until fully grown to reduce the risk of further, expensive operations. Finally Daisy has had the second TAC which we paid 312.42 euros for, and this allowed the vet to see at 1 year old, how best to move forward.

Willy was unwell, and he needed to see the vet, so we paid 116.26 for him to have his consultation, mouth/teeth cleaned and antibiotics, which we hope makes him feel better. His heart isn't strong enough for anaesthesia so we hope he will feel better soon.

A female cat, who had kittens, was very unwell and at risk of dying, so we paid 183.74 for her vet visit, and she felt much better afterwards.

Some small dogs (4 girls and 1 boy) were saved from a cruel owner, and the rescuer needed to take them to the vet for teeth, micro chips and vaccines, so we paid 287 euros for this, and also paid 692 words to sterilise the 4 girls thanks to the help we get for sterilising from DPDSAA.

A young female called Nina (3) broke her leg at the elbow! A very good and kind specialist vet offered to help her for a good rate, less than some other vets had offered, and the vet then contacted us as the owner was still unable to pay. So we paid 700 euros towards her surgery.

We held an Anniversary Art Auction in April, as that was the 2nd Anniversary of the sad death of beautiful Buddy. With HUGE thanks to all the Artists who donated their work, and also thanks to all the bidders and winners of the Art we made 1813 euros for Buddy's Legacy. Special thanks goes to Wendy Frost who allowed us to use her Auction page, Make A Bid Make A Difference, which really did make a difference to our Auction. πŸ™‚

We had 2 Raffles on the go for our 2 year Anniversary of Buddy's Legacy. We had the huge prize bundle, worth over 170 euros. A huge thank you to Alison Geers who kindly donated SIX bottles of Champagne so we ran a second raffle worth over 270 euros.

At our 1 year Anniversary we decided to start collecting small change, all the coins people often put into a drawer or pot, or even leave in the car. We managed to collect 638.81 euros in 12 months! 😲 We are continuing this initiative for another 12 months, hoping to raise even more money to help support Buddy's Legacy! πŸ˜€

So please, if you are within certain locations (Loule/Almancil/to Castro Marim/VRSA inclusive) or you have a friend or family member who can visit these locations we can meet you and collect your small change πŸ™. We would like people to ask their friends, neighbours and work colleagues also for the small 1c, 2c, 5c and even 10c that they likely don't spend. We are happy to take these coins from anybody who collects them for us, and will try to beat the 12 month total already set. Thank you all for helping us, and continuing to help us 😘.

We started Buddy's Legacy with one of our intentions to be to sterilise the pets of low income people to help control accidental pregnancies, and also the illness that can come with not being sterilised. However we started to realise quickly that it wouldn't be easy to find the money to do this unless there was a cancer or condition which required it. So to allow us to commence this important work we are very grateful to have received a grant from DPDSAA animal charity which is based in the UK and does focus a lot on helping with the costs of sterilising animals in Portugal. So a huge thank you to them for helping us with this. We have started and will continue doing this alongside our other important work! πŸ™‚ You can check out the DPDSAA website here.

Thank you also to Coosje Van Den Boom, who has now sadly passed away, for adding to our sterilisation budget, as some of the sterilisations were more difficult than expected, due to issues with the health and well being of the dogs and cats involved. πŸ™‚

And finally... thank you AGAIN to NANDI who helped us with a substantial donation to keep us going during the lean and difficult times. As always we appreciate this. πŸ™‚
